Energy Secure Future (ESF) is proud to support today’s landmark announcement from LNG Canada and MNT Investments LP, which creates the opportunity for five First Nations to acquire up to a $1 billion majority ownership stake in infrastructure supporting LNG Canada’s proposed Phase 2 expansion. This agreement represents a significant step forward for economic reconciliation, demonstrating how Indigenous Nations can participate not only through employment and procurement, but as long-term equity owners in major energy infrastructure.
The announcement directly reflects the vision outlined in ESF’s newly released When Our Nation Builds report: that Indigenous equity partnerships are transforming how Canada builds major projects. Across the country, Indigenous-led ownership is creating lasting prosperity for communities while strengthening Canada’s ability to deliver strategic energy infrastructure. The LNG Canada agreement is a powerful example of this model in action, one that aligns economic opportunity, reconciliation, and energy security.
